1916 'GENERAL SERVICE' MILITARY MODEL
30 December 2009

Brendan Kelly in Ireland noticed the website had no contemporary photos of the 1916 General Service (GS) Sunbeam produced for the UK War Department in 1916. He kindly sent along a few photos of his well-restored machine to provide info about the model.

He writes:-

Hi,

I have been looking at your site and see that Sunbeam 3 1/2 hp 1916 general service motorcycles are not pictorially represented. Perhaps you may be interested in using the attached images. This bike is my property and details are as follows:-

frame no. [ ----- ]
engine number [ ----- ] / GS
reg. LC 4511

I am in the process of building up the history of this bike. Originally it was a General Service bike which eventually went into civilian use on 17 / 04 / 1921 in Surrey. The colour of the bike is as per original spec so it can be assumed it did not see any active service in Europe. Bob Champ purchased it on 06 / 04 / 1978 at that point it had only 3 owners and was in a complete but dismantled state. What I do know is that Peter Ashen restored it to its present state sometime in the 80's. After that it was sold at Bonhams in 2004 and 2006. Eventually ending up here in Ireland.

That's it so far.

Regards,

Brendan
